Get beneath the surface.

This is an explorable teaching cutaway of a generic rooftop air conditioner with electric resistance heat. All six rooms share one thermostat.

Start with a journey

Choose Journeys → Follow the room air. Use Previous and Next to trace the loop, or select any component directly.

Turn up the depth

Levels 1, 2 and 3 deepen the same component explanation. They keep your camera and selection in place. Nothing is locked.

Separate the paths

Airflow, refrigerant, heat transfer and controls have distinct overlays. Use Rooftop for equipment detail and Building for the distribution network.

Change a condition

Field cases compare a baseline with restricted airflow and a blocked-drain interlock. These are qualitative teaching cases, not diagnostic predictions.

What is simplified

Cabinet panels and upper walls are removed for access. The unit is enlarged for teaching; pipe sizes, duct sizing, clearances, wiring and ventilation rates are not installation designs. Flow paths are symbolic, room mixing is simplified, and the stepper is not a timed controller simulation. The generic model is not refrigerant-specific and omits some manufacturer-specific protections.

Use the actual equipment diagram and qualified supervision for field procedures involving electricity, refrigerant or protective controls. Thermostat Off is not electrical isolation.
